They are placed directly over an existing concrete surface and are primarily used to increase the thickness of the surface. This extends its life and reduces stress on it. However, please keep in mind that bonded concrete overlays are not meant to be used if a concrete surface has reached the very end of its lifespan. The bond between the overlay and the original concrete surface itself must be inflexible and rigid.
